Happy Father's Day!

June is such a wonderful month for our family.  We celebrate many special moments together such as the anniversary of our 1st home purchase, the birthday of our 1st baby, and also Father's Day.  This year for Father's Day, we had a lovely breakfast on the Naval Base and bought a basketball hoop for our boy so my husband and son could play ball indoors and/or out.  As a father's day gift, my husband is also treating himself to a smartphone.  I know.... I know, doesn't everyone already have one... you ask?  Yup, we're a little slow to adopt technology, but it sure is nice to be a little disconnected at times.

Happy 2nd Birthday!

My boy had his 2nd birthday last week and was oh soooo cute!  Little did we know that he was suffering from walking pneumonia.  We celebrated his birthday with a cake and candle, then drove to the Outer Banks for a fun weekend on the beach.  After a high fever, vomiting and a rough night's sleep, we cut out stay short and drove back home.  We were able to control the fever with meds, baths and Pedialyte, but the coughing was getting worse.  The doctor diagnosed with walking pneumonia and we were well on our way to a full recovery with the help of the z pack.  Because we had to cut our trip short, we now have a beach house booked to enjoy for a full week.  Yippeeee!  This was my first birthday cake attempt.  It was chocolate with buttercream frosting.  I definitely need more practice with the lettering.

After several years on a couple social networking sites, I've decided to unplug for a bit.  Sitting in front of the computer reading status updates, loading photos and commenting on friend's pages for a few hours at a time have finally taken its toll.  I have enjoyed rekindling friendships and reconnecting with distant relatives, but the pros just don't out-weight the cons for me.  As more people have joined, I believe these sites have evolved into more than a site to stay connected.  They have turned into a places for people to boast, bully, and exclude others.  There are those who want to give the illusion of a perfect life through their posts, and there are those who are voyeurs that envy the perfect family, perfect vacation, perfect kids, etc.  Many marriages and families are even broken because of these sites.  The grass may look greener on the other side of the road, but it certainly isn't perfectly green.  Nothing is perfect.  Unfortunately, precious time is wasted on these crazy sites that bring about emotions that can interfere with God's plan for our lives.  We all have special gifts and are destined for greatness in this world.  How can we accomplish what we were meant to be if we're so wrapped up in other people's lives through their status updates, photos, apps, etc.?

Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. - Luke 12:7
